Retirement: It happens to all your equipment at some point.
The best-case scenario is that it causes hardly a blip in your application, and that it’s proactively decided. (A forced, unplanned update will undoubtedly have a bigger impact.) At ProSoft, we’ve been working to update legacy modules with time to move to the newest solutions – and providing the support you need to make the transition as smooth as possible.
The latest solutions are replacing legacy IEC 60870-5-104 gateways. Like with other replacement modules, we’ve given the newer versions additional functionality to best support your long-term application.
If you have the 5201-DFNT-104S module, your updated solution will be the EtherNet/IP™ to IEC 60870-5-104 Gateway. The new Modbus® TCP/IP gateway is replacing the legacy 5201-MNET-104S.
There are a few reasons why we’re fans of the new modules, but one of my favorites is the ease in updating: The replacements are direct drop-in replacements for the legacy modules, thanks to the ProSoft Configuration Builder. This helps pave the way for a smooth transition for your application.
Here’s what else you can expect from the new modules:
∙ Added functionality for your application, including support for 10,000 words of data transfer
∙ Single and dual subnet support; in the case of the latter, this means you can let each protocol reside on a separate physical Ethernet port, with a unique IP address for each communications protocol.
∙ Support for up to 3 client connections on the IEC-60870-5-104 communications server of the module, with redundancy on each connection
Feel free to contact our tech support team if you have questions about how the new modules would work in your application!
